Interview with Baltic Jamboree Chief

News of Baltic Jamboree 2010

Baltic Jamboree is joint scouts of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia Camp organized by one of three Baltic Countries every 4 years. 2010 Jamboree is taking place in Lithuania on August 7th—15th, 2010.

The best way to know more about this Jamboree is to ask the person who knows everything about it! Let us introduce the Chief of the Baltic Jamboree 2010- Justinas!

Justinas, we were thinking, what to ask firstly, but the most common thing which must definitely be asked is How will the camp be organized?
Well, all works are going well, some of them are going faster, others – slower, but the biggest part has been already done. We don‘t have to be afraid that something won‘t be done, because we have a wonderful team which organizes the Jamboree and of course, everything will be done on time and in the best way.

What works are the most important now?
The most essential works now are to finish programs of subcamps’ and to combine everything into one. It‘s really important that all activities and other parts of program would be on time by planned schedule, because there will be a lot of people from different countries in the Jamboree so everything has to work properly.

What about the headquarters and leaders? Tell us more about them.
There are really good and creative leaders in the team, people who are experienced and organizing the Jamboree is not the first time for them. Of course, there are pluses and minuses in each team but I think that this one is really able to organize Jamboree like this and we are doing great. I’m sure you will like them, when you are in the Jamboree.

Tell us about the program of Jamboree? What are the highlights?
The Jamboree is based on different cultures communication (as you saw- The way to friendship), so there will be true scout feeling during the Jamboree. All the activities will remind us about the beginning of Scouting, how Robert Baden Powell began. We‘ll try to lose touch with the modernism and luxury. Food will be prepared on fire, there will be a lot of orienteering games, woodcrafts, we‘ll explore Telšiai district and have many other surprises..:)

What countries will attend the Jamboree?
The main amount of participants will be from three Baltic States – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, certainly it’s Baltic Jamboree. Of course we‘ll have guests from other countries like Belarus, Austria, USA, Denmark and others.

What will be the menu?:)
The camp menu is going to be really amazing and special – it won‘t be only dull vegetables and porridges! Our kitchen Gurus have planned different kind of meals like Japanese sushi or American hamburgers, and of course traditional food of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, so I think we won‘t be hungry, our stomachs will be full all the time☺ By the way, each subcamp will prepare food by themselves, they will be given the amazing menu which I‘ve already described. That means that everyone will have a possibility to learn to make some dishes.

What are the leaders going to do?
The leaders will participate in IST subcamp’s activities and will help in camp’s works. There will be special program for leaders in the evenings, in a place called „The Hole“, where we are going to meet new cultures, taste countries‘ cuisines. We‘ll dance new dances, listen to lots of songs and find other surprises.

Is there going to be any free time during the program? What sort of activities we will be able to do?
Of course, there will be free time and different kind of activities during it, you‘ll be able to choose and register. For very tired scouts there will be a peace and tranquility zone.

What is the main thing why should I participate in the Baltic Jamboree, if I‘m under 18?
You‘ll be able to communicate with new people, improve your English and other languages skills, relax and, of course, spend time purposely with scouts in real scouting Jamboree. Our team is working hard to make everything marvelous!

And the last question. In your opinion, will there be many scouts in the Jamboree?
It doesn’t matter how many people are going to come to the camp, it will be still amazing. The most important thing is quality, not quantity ☺

If you still haven’t planned your summer activities, you are kindly welcome here!

Latest News – 29th April

On 29th of April Baltic Jamboree members Justinas, Vytenis, Paulius, Vaiva, Titas (members of organizing team) visited Telsiai district where Baltic jamboree 2010 will be held this summer. We met an owner of the camp place, signed an agreement. We also met an owner of market net and decided to collaborate in food supply field. Agreement was reached about drinking water during the camp and swimming place with the manager of Germantas Vila (it is a public villa not far from our camp area). We met a forester. It seems we will have pioneering material in the Jamboree ☺ we used an opportunity to visit Telsiai scouts.
And also! A good news for IST and leaders! Let me introduce Titas Motuzas- the author of BJam song which will be recorded soon. He will be a chief of “Duobe”. Duobe is a place where IST and leaders meet to communicate and relax during their free time. He and his team will prepare a relaxed evening programs and also serious programs for the daytime.
We also visited our camp area and looked around how it looks in spring. Definitely there is no snow anymore and the forest is getting colorful. Blueberries already have little leaves; forest is full of small blue and white. It is easy to imagine what a beautiful place we will have in summer! See you there?

Best regards
Justinas, Vytenis, Paulius, Vaiva, Titas

Nuo Baltic Jamboree 2010

Baltic Jamboree meeting

Eventually the leaders gathered at the future camp site situated in ethnographic region of Samogitia, in Telšiai district, near Germantas lake. Even though promising morning sunshine was interupted by light rain, eager leaders did not hesitate to explore the camp site and hike in the forest. More than 300 scouts from Europe will be camping here in August 2010. The decisions about sub camp locations, opening and closing ceremony places and camp fire location were taken while enjoying bluberries and great atmosphere of the campsite.
While the rain was showing no intention to stop and even darker clouds covered the sky, the leaders of subcamps and programme coordinators cosily hid under the tent and presented their plans. Every presentation was met with aplause, cheering and suggestions how to become even better. It was clear that jamboree will be interesting. Material Property and Security Commisioners promissed to ensure the smoth running of the camp and safe environment.
According to ancient wisdom: ‘You reap what you sow‘. Baltic Jamboree 2010 ‘Amber Way’ is sowing successfuly for upcoming summers fun.

I will be there. Will you?
